Chapter 162: Harmony and Unity
When she recalled what happened last night, her face flushed. She rolled over and pinned him down, waking him up.
Lu Yu was stunned when he saw Ji Meiqing's resentful expression. "What's wrong with you?"
Without a word, she pushed him off the bed to the ground. He hadn't been on guard against Ji Meiqing and was pushed off without much effort.
"Get out of bed." She glared at him, then burrowed back into the covers and buried her head. Lu Yu stood by the bed, somewhat bewildered, unsure of what had happened.
Why did they suddenly change their tune like that? Ji Meiqing nestled inside, feeling somewhat agitated, yet also vaguely expectant.
She didn't know what she was expecting, so when she got up and dressed, and saw that he wasn't in the room, she became even angrier.
When the door was opened, she saw Lu Yu standing in front of it. Her heart skipped a beat.
"What are you doing!"
She asked irritably, turning her head to reveal the red marks on her neck. Ji Meiqing didn't.
Noticing this, Lu Yu couldn't help but think of what happened last night.
"Are you feeling unwell anywhere?" he asked hesitantly.
Her face turned even redder at the question.
The two stood awkwardly inside and outside the door. If Ji Tianci hadn't come to call them for dinner, they probably wouldn't have known how to end the situation.
Ji Meiqing walked over first, without even glancing at him.
Lu Yu followed behind her, and the two entered the restaurant one after the other. At first, no one noticed what had happened. However, during the meal, the two always sat together, but this time Ji Meiqing sat next to her younger brother.
Seeing this, Lu Yu couldn't help but smile bitterly. With Ji Tianci and Granny Mei beside her, she could only sit outside.
"Come sit down, there's some soup in the kitchen I'll go check on it." She casually made up an excuse and slowly left. Lu Yu naturally sat down next to her.
Ji Meiqing's complexion wasn't very good, but she still patiently ate the breakfast.
After calmly finishing her breakfast, Ji Meiqing went out. Lu Yu glanced at her and continued eating his meal.
"What's wrong with my sister?" Ji Tianci was also a little confused about his sister's personality; she had suddenly changed her demeanor.
"I don't know." He wiped his mouth, looked in the direction of the door, and went back to his room.
The bed was still messy, not tidied up much. The blanket was taken off, and there was a dark red bloodstain on the crumpled sheets.
I tidied up the bed again and then changed the sheets and blankets.
Only after he had dealt with all of this did he leave the room.
It was obvious where Ji Meiqing had gone. Lu Yu walked over; it wasn't far, and the restaurant wasn't crowded at this time.
He went inside and asked the shopkeeper directly, "Where is the madam?"
"They're settling accounts upstairs," the innkeeper said with a smile, his face crinkling with wrinkles. Lu Yu went upstairs and looked through each room one by one until he finally found it in the middle.
When Ji Meiqing saw him coming, her expression immediately turned sour.
"What are you doing here?" She pushed the ledger forward, intending to leave.
Lu Yu held her hand, looking at her awkward expression, and couldn't help but laugh.
"What are you laughing at!" She glared at him, trying to pull her hand back but found it was stuck, unable to be pulled back. "Let go."
“If I really let go, you’ll really get angry.” Not only did he not let go, he pulled her closer instead.
They couldn't escape, nor could they break free. The distance between them had actually grown even closer.
"Stop it, be good." He held her and coaxed her softly, his voice seemingly having a hypnotic effect, and the awkwardness in her heart slowly disappeared.
Seeing that she had really calmed down, Lu Yu pulled her to sit down on the side again, "Tomorrow is the day, I'll go with you."
He paused, looking at the marks on her neck, then subtly looked away. "I'm afraid you were tired last night. You should rest for a while now."
"You still dare to talk back!" She glared at him again.
Lu Yu quietly changed the subject, but still coughed a few times and slowly said, "I'll be more careful next time."
To prevent her from becoming awkward again, Lu Yu took her hand and put the apology gift he had brought on her head.
"Grandma Mei always tells me that I don't treat my wife well, that I don't buy her clothes and jewelry, and that I make her busy every day. I agree, but I don't know what to do, so I can only buy this bracelet as a bribe. I hope my wife will forgive me."
The bracelet was of good quality, and it made her wrist appear particularly slender. Especially under the light, it was crystal clear, as if it contained a lot of light.
"I don't like it." She threw the bracelet back and continued doing her own thing. He smiled and wasn't in a hurry, saying, "This bracelet can be considered your life-saving tool. Keep it; if anything happens to us in the future, you can use it to escape."
Upon hearing this, Ji Meiqing wanted to retort but then heard him say, "If I could protect you for all eternity, I could give you small gifts to make you happy, just like an ordinary person. But you've entered the business world and become involved with money. It's like trying to make money at sea. You never know when you'll encounter a storm. I don't know if I can be by your side. If I am by your side, I can protect you for a lifetime. If I am not by your side, I can only wish you a lifetime of peace."
"How can you say the same thing?" She was amused by his appearance. "At worst, I'll just take the bracelet. You don't need to curse me like that."
She took it back and put it on her wrist again, then waved it in front of him, "Is that alright?"
Lu Yu didn't speak, but just looked into her eyes and smiled.
She looked at the bracelet; in the light, it seemed to be turning into water, flowing slowly within. But upon closer inspection, there was nothing there, just a vibrant green.
Ji Meiqing continued to lie on the table calculating the accounts. The numbers on the table were a headache to look at, with many complicated strokes. As she wrote, she couldn't help but want to throw the pen down.
Looking at Lu Yu reading a book next to her, she couldn't help but feel indignant. She held out her pen directly to him and said expressionlessly, "I'm tired. You do the math for me."
He smiled, took the book without saying a word, and started writing immediately, as if there were an answer key in front of him, without the slightest hesitation.
Ji Meiqing picked up the book he had just been reading. It was just a record of winemaking recipes, and after flipping through a few pages, she became even more confused. The writing style of the records was almost the same, only the recipes were changed a few times.
Brewing wine is like decocting medicine; the ingredients must be prepared precisely, otherwise the original flavor will be ruined.
