Chapter 382. The Mechanical God Has No Heart (Part 5)
Helpless, Lu Renkui could only rely on his existing knowledge to speculate on the world's standards for robots to resemble humans.
Let me think about it. Robots are like individuals; shouldn't they pass the Turing Test? Lu Renkui pondered, "Then shouldn't robots also be able to make mistakes like humans?"
"This is so difficult. I should have read more science fiction novels." Lu Renkui leaned back in the swivel chair, closed her eyes, and faced the ceiling.
"Buzz buzz buzz~" Lu Renkui felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. She picked it up and saw the words "Feng Yuhan" written on it.
It was the female researcher who called. Thinking that they might have encountered some tricky problem, Lu Renkui immediately answered the phone and got up to rush outside, listening to Feng Yuhan explain the situation on the other end of the line.
Fortunately, what Feng Yuhan said wasn't as serious as Lu Renkui had imagined.
“Professor Lin, K011 says it wants to go back,” Feng Yuhan said on the phone.
"Ah, it wants to come back, right? Then why does it want to come back?" Lu Renkui asked.
“It says the sun is a bit too strong, and it doesn’t want to sunbathe,” Feng Yuhan replied.
"Is the sun very strong outside today?" Lu Renkui asked, slowing his pace a little.
"Yes," Feng Yuhan replied.
"Alright, come back now and bring K011 to the event space. I'll be there in a bit." With that, Lu Renkui hung up the phone and walked towards the event space.
On her way to the activity space, Lu Renkui heard the system WQBYRZM calling her from within her consciousness space.
"What's wrong, System?" Lu Renkui asked.
“The main system just sent us a message,” within Lin Huanming’s consciousness space, system WQBYRZM frowned as it read the message from the main system again, “A supreme system of primal inspiration has entered our world.”
"Ah, is this guy troublesome?" Lu Renkui asked—she had already seen the doorknob of the activity space.
"It's rather tricky... but what's he doing here? The male and female leads haven't even been born yet, what's he doing here?" System WQBYRZM remained silent.
"Uh, the male and female protagonists haven't been born yet?" Lu Renkui had just asked the question when he remembered that the system WQBYRZM had told him that the current timeline was 30 years before the original story took place.
As expected, the system WQBYRZM also said: "In the original story, the female protagonist is 24 years old and the male protagonist is 26 years old. These two haven't even grown into embryos yet."
"Then what's that guy doing here? Aren't they specifically looking for the protagonist?" Lu Renkui wondered. "The protagonist hasn't even been born yet. Is this guy sure he didn't come to the wrong time?"
"I was wondering the same thing. Let me check if they're looking for anyone other than the main character." System WQBYRZM said, then went silent again—presumably to go find information.
When Lu Renkui saw that there was no news from the system WQBYRZM, he entered the activity space and saw K011 sitting on the ground looking up at the ceiling, and Feng Yuhan and Wang Yinghui writing notes on the side.
Hearing the door open, the two people and the robot turned around to see who had opened it.
Upon seeing that it was "Lin Huanming," the two researchers first said, "Professor Lin."
The little robot also stood up from the ground and called out to Lu Renkui, who was inside Lin Huanming's body: "Professor Lin".
Lu Renkui maintained his persona, nodding in response to the two researchers, and then asked K011, "You think the sun is too strong outside, so you don't want to stay outside, right?"
“Yes, Professor Lin.” K011 nodded.
"Why do you feel the sun is so strong?" Lu Renkui asked.
"Because the sun is so bright, I can barely see anything in it," K011 replied.
“Okay, we will make further improvements to your eyes based on your specific situation.” After saying this, Lu Renkui asked K011, “Is it okay under indoor lighting?”
“Yes, Professor Lin,” K011 replied.
"Okay, I understand." Lu Renkui turned to look at the two researchers, who were writing on paper that K011's eyes couldn't see clearly in the sun, and that this problem should be solved soon.
"Do you want to go into hibernation, or do you want to take a walk around the lab?" Lu Renkui asked, noticing that the other two researchers had also stopped writing and looked up at K011.
K011 blinked and then said, "I want to walk around the lab a little longer."
“Alright, I’ll show you around,” Lu Renkui said. “Remember not to touch anything. There are too many things in the lab, and I’m afraid you might get hurt.”
"If there's anything you're interested in, you can tell me, and I can explain it to you."
K011 blinked: "Okay, Professor Lin."
So Lu Renkui, Wang Yinghui, and Feng Yuhan, who were inside Lin Huanming's body, along with the robot K011, all left the activity space. Lu Renkui and the robot K011 walked in front, while Feng Yuhan and Wang Yinghui walked behind, recording every question K011 asked and every request K011 made.
"Professor Lin, why was I created?" K011 asked.
Lu Renkui replied, "Because society now needs companion robots that are more like humans, you were created."
It felt like a question a child would ask, Lu Renkui thought, like asking their parents where they came from and why they came into this world.
K011 blinked three times in a row, then asked, "Professor Lin, what do I need to do if I want to act like a human?"
“You’ll have to explore that yourself,” Lu Renkui replied. “You can read books, or find a crowded place and observe human behavior.”
"But remember—everything you do must comply with the Three Laws of Robotics. You know what the Three Laws of Robotics are, right?"
“I know, Professor Lin,” K011 replied. “First Law: A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, cause injury to a human being.”
"The Second Law: A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where those orders would conflict with the First Law."
"The Third Law: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law."
"Good to know." Lu Renkui nodded, then heard K011 speak again: "But I still hope Professor Lin can give me some direction—if I want to be more human, in which directions should I explore?"
