Chapter 56 We made a promise to spend New Year's Eve together.
Around 8 p.m., Ji Yan texted Ning Yi, asking her to come downstairs and pick her up for dinner.
Ning Yi put on makeup and dressed up nicely, since she was having dinner with Ji Yan.
She excitedly ran out the door and downstairs, where she saw the car that Ji Yan had told her about.
The driver's side window of the car she had just left was rolled down.
"Xiao Yi, get in the car quickly."
What appeared before her was Xu Zhi's smiling face.
Ning Yi blinked; she thought it was just Ji Yan and her.
Ning Yi nodded and walked to the back seat.
She opened the door and found Ji Yan sitting on the other side, so she quickly sat down.
"Where should we eat?" Ning Yi asked.
Ji Yan turned off his iPad and replied, "There might still be fans nearby who haven't left. Let's go eat somewhere a little further away."
"I just found out online that there's a Sichuan restaurant over there on the other side of the bridge. It has pretty good reviews. Want to try it?" Xu Zhi asked with a smile.
"Can you eat spicy food?" Ji Yan turned to look at her.
Ning Yi nodded quickly: "Of course!"
Then Xu Zhi drove off.
Ji Yan had already booked a private room while they were in the car, so they could go straight in as soon as they arrived.
Ji Yan changed into a gray short jacket and put on a hat when he got out of the car. Xu Zhi told the shop assistant that they had reserved a private room, and then they were led there.
The waiter thoughtfully handed over three menus. As they were looking at the dishes, Ning Yi noticed that the waiter kept glancing at Ji Yan.
"You look just like a celebrity," the shop assistant couldn't help but say to Ji Yan.
Before Xu Zhi could say anything, the shop assistant suddenly exclaimed excitedly, "I know, I know! Are you Ji Yan?"
"I just remembered, you're having a meet-and-greet here."
Ning Yi couldn't help but look at him. The shop assistant was a young man. She didn't expect Ji Yan to have male fans.
Ji Yan looked up and smiled at him, saying, "Hello, I'm Ji Yan."
The shop assistant became even more excited: "Could you give me your autograph?"
Ji Yan stood up and politely said, "Okay, but I hope you won't tell anyone."
The shop assistant quickly nodded: "I understand, I understand. It's not easy for you public figures either. You have to worry about being recognized by fans just to have a meal."
The shop assistant then took out a pen and paper from his uniform and handed them to Ji Yan: "Actually, my girlfriend is also a fan of yours. She really likes you. She would be so happy to know that I got your autograph."
Ji Yan took the paper and pen, quickly signed her name, handed it to him, and then nodded and smiled, saying, "Thank you and your girlfriend for your appreciation."
Then they ordered some dishes, and the waiter took notes and left.
Just then, Ningyi's phone rang.
Ning Yi glanced at the card; it was from Ning Anyuan. She hesitated whether to answer, after all, she hadn't mentioned coming here to see Ji Yan, and she had even taken leave to come...
Seeing that she was staring at her phone and not answering the call, Ji Yan asked, "Why aren't you answering the phone?"
Ning Yi finally answered the phone.
"Hey, why did it take you so long to answer the phone?" Ning Anyuan said on the other end.
"I wasn't looking at my phone," Ning Yi replied.
"Tomorrow is New Year's Eve, do you want me to come pick you up from school and we can celebrate together?" Ning Anyuan said from the other end of the line.
Ning Yi quickly said, "No need, no need to come pick me up."
"Why? Don't you want to spend New Year's Eve with your brother?" Ning Anyuan continued.
“No…” Ning Yi glanced up at Ji Yan and found him staring at her.
"I've made plans with a friend, so you don't need to pick me up," Ning Yi said, pursing her lips.
Ning Anyuan: "Alright then, it's time to have fun with friends in college."
They chatted for a while longer before hanging up.
"Is that Brother An Yuan? He doesn't know you're here?" Xu Zhi asked, somewhat surprised.
Ning Yi shook her head: "I didn't tell him."
Ji Yan looked at her with a half-smile: "Let's eat."
The dishes were served just as Ning Yi was making the phone call.
Ji Yan noticed that Ning Yi really liked the sweet and sour pork ribs in front of him, so he simply placed the plate in front of Ning Yi.
Ning Yi paused for a moment, then waved her hand: "No need, I can actually reach it."
"Eat more," Ji Yan continued eating.
After they ate for a while, Xu Zhi couldn't help but drink several glasses of water.
"I didn't expect Xiaoyi to be able to eat so much spicy food!" Xu Zhi looked at Ning Yi's bowl of bright red rice, which was covered with oil and chili peppers left over from the vegetables.
And Ning Yi didn't even say it was spicy.
Ning Yi wiped her mouth and smiled, "I think it's fine, it's quite delicious."
Ji Yan also glanced at Ning Yi with some surprise. He was a little better than Xu Zhi; he didn't have to drink water after eating just a few bites of food, but some of the dishes were indeed quite spicy.
After they finished eating, it was quite late, so Xu Zhi drove Ning Yi back to her hotel first.
As Ning Yi approached the hotel, she asked them curiously, "Where are you staying?"
“We’re staying at another hotel. There are more fans here, so we’re more likely to run into them,” Ji Yan said.
Ning Yi nodded, then opened the door and got out of the car.
"Bye-bye, I'm leaving now," Ning Yi waved to them and turned to walk back to the hotel.
Ning Yi wore a long black cotton-padded coat, which made her look even more petite and cute.
Ji Yan watched her retreating figure, a slight smile playing on his lips.
Back at the hotel, Ningyi quickly washed up and went to bed; the blankets were so warm and cozy.
She took out her phone and searched for routes from Minghai City to the beach.
After watching for a while, Ning Yi sent a message to Ji Yan.
Ningyi: Will you still be here tomorrow?
Ji Yan: Hmm, Xu Zhi said he wants to stay here for two days.
Ning Yi was quite happy, which meant she could spend New Year's Eve with Ji Yan tomorrow.
The thought of having Xu Zhi at dinner today makes me wonder if he'll be there for New Year's Eve tomorrow.
Ning Yi felt a little helpless, but it wasn't easy to say such things outright.
Ning Yi continued to text Ji Yan: How about we go to the beach tomorrow?
Ning Yi: We'll go there to celebrate the New Year.
Ji Yan: Yes
Ji Yan: It's cold at the beach, remember to wear more clothes.
Ning Yi: Yeah, you too.
Ning Yi smiled contentedly, looking forward to tomorrow.
