Chapter 243 Fever
Chapter 243 Fever
Soon it was time for the wrap party.
Ji Yan was supposed to attend, but was suddenly told that she couldn't go.
Because Ningyi is sick.
Fang Yuqing just sent me a message saying that Ning Yi started having a fever this afternoon, and was shivering a bit even wrapped in a blanket, but repeatedly told me not to tell him.
As soon as the car left the hotel, he dialed Fang Yuqing's number: "How high is your fever? Have you taken any medicine? Have you gone to the hospital?"
"I just measured her temperature at 38.7 degrees Celsius. She took fever reducer and said she wants to sleep for a while and doesn't want to go to the hospital." Fang Yuqing's voice came through the receiver, mixed with Ning Yi's faint cough.
Ji Yan gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles turning white: "Keep an eye on things, I'll be there in twenty minutes."
Twenty minutes later.
Hearing the door lock click, Fang Yuqing immediately went to meet her, her voice low: "She just fell asleep. She took the fever reducer half an hour ago, but hasn't sweated much yet." She stepped aside to make way and pointed towards the bedroom, "I made some ginger tea and kept it warm in the kitchen. Let's see if she can drink a little when she wakes up."
Ji Yan didn't say much, just nodded, and took off his shoes so quietly that it was almost silent.
Pushing open the bedroom door, in the warm light, you can see Ning Yi curled up in the blanket, only half of her face showing, her brows slightly furrowed.
His cheeks were flushed an unnatural red, and his bangs were soaked with sweat and stuck to his skin.
Ji Yan walked over quietly, his fingertips gently touching her forehead. The heat from her skin made his heart clench.
He walked over and squatted down by the bed, gently touching her forehead with his fingertips. The heat traveled through her skin. Just as he was about to withdraw his hand, Ning Yi suddenly moved, her eyelashes fluttering as she opened her eyes. Her voice was hoarse, as if covered in sand: "Why are you back... Weren't you supposed to be at the wrap party?"
He simply reached out and brushed the sweat from her forehead, his voice very soft: "The wrap party is nothing compared to you."
Why didn't you tell me you were feeling unwell?
Ning Yi blinked, trying to sit up, but he pressed her back down on the pillow: "Don't move, lie down a little longer."
He turned and went to the kitchen to bring back some warm ginger tea. He tested the temperature before handing it to her lips: "Drink a couple of sips first, to sweat it out."
Ning Yi took a small sip, the spiciness of the ginger mixed with the sweetness sliding down her throat. She frowned slightly, but still obediently finished it.
Ji Yan put down the bowl, took a wet towel and placed it on her forehead, his voice deep: "If the fever doesn't go down soon, go to the hospital. Don't try to tough it out."
His tone left no room for argument.
Ning Yi didn't have the strength to refute, she just gave a soft "hmm" and her eyelids began to feel heavy again.
Ji Yan sat on the edge of the bed, his fingertips repeatedly stroking the back of her hand, his gaze fixed on her flushed cheeks, filled with heartache.
In the latter half of the night, Ningyi's body temperature finally dropped a bit and was no longer as burning as before.
She opened her eyes groggily and found Ji Yan still sitting on the edge of the bed, his chin resting on his knees, his eyelashes drooping, as if he were asleep, but he was still gently holding her hand.
Ning Yi moved her fingers, and Ji Yan immediately woke up, his voice hoarse from just waking up: "Awake? Are you still feeling unwell?" He reached out and touched her forehead, then breathed a sigh of relief, "The fever has gone down a bit."
"You're not asleep?" Ning Yi asked in a hoarse voice.
"She slept for a while." Ji Yan didn't tell the truth. He didn't dare to close his eyes at all and took her temperature every half hour.
He got up, poured a glass of warm water, helped Ningyi sit up, let her lean against him, and slowly fed her a few sips. "Are you hungry? I cooked some porridge."
Ning Yi nodded; her stomach was indeed feeling incredibly empty.
The porridge was served quickly. Ji Yan scooped it up with a spoon, blew on it to cool it down, and then brought it to her lips.
Ning Yi ate in small bites. The white porridge was cooked until soft and tender, with a faint aroma of rice. It slid down her throat and warmed her empty stomach.
She ate a little over half a bowl, but had no appetite left. Ji Yan didn't force her, put the bowl on the bedside table, helped her lie down, and tucked the blanket around her.
"Sleep a little longer, I'll stay with you." He sat on the edge of the bed.
Ning Yi tugged at his sleeve, her voice still weak: "You should lie down for a while too, the bed is big enough."
Ji Yan paused, then bent down to tuck the blanket around her more securely before gently lifting the other side of the blanket and lying down, only daring to stay close to the edge of the bed so as not to crush her.
Ning Yi moved closer to him, resting her forehead against his arm, and said in a muffled voice, "Don't always push yourself, you're tired too."
Ji Yan's heart softened, and he gently reached out to encircle her waist, his movements extremely soft, his voice warm: "Okay, I'll sleep with you."
……
Ning Yi woke up first when the morning light streamed in through the gaps in the curtains.
She moved her fingertips and touched Ji Yan's warm arm. Turning her head, she saw that his brows were slightly furrowed and there were faint dark circles under his eyes, indicating that he had not slept well.
She didn't dare disturb him, but just watched him quietly.
Before long, Ji Yan also woke up. He opened his eyes and met her gaze. He immediately relaxed his brow and reached out to touch her forehead: "The fever has completely gone down, and it's gone."
Ning Yi: "You seem more tired than me. You've had a tough time."
Ji Yan's voice was still hoarse: "It's okay, as long as you're alright."
He then got up to cook breakfast, but Ning Yi grabbed his clothes.
“Lie down a little longer,” she said, pulling him back. “I want to stay with you a little longer.”
Ji Yan didn't refuse. He lay down again, pulled the other person into his arms, and the sunlight slowly climbed onto the bedding, warmly enveloping the two of them.
"Won't it interfere with important matters if you don't go to the wrap party?" she asked, looking up.
Ji Yan: "It's okay, they know I have something urgent to attend to."
Ning Yi pursed her lips: "Actually, you didn't need to come back. It's just a fever, and you'll be fine the next day."
Ji Yan's tone became more serious: "You have such a high fever, and you don't go to the hospital. How can I be at ease?"
"Nothing is more important than work, nothing compares to you, you know that?"
Ning Yi couldn't help but smile, a warmth spreading through her heart: "Okay, I understand."
Ji Yan lowered her head and rubbed the top of his head: "Once you've rested enough, we'll go back to the neighboring city. Mom and Dad are really worried about you."
His tone was relaxed: "He even said I was keeping you here and not letting you go back."
Ning Yi smiled and said, "But I really miss my parents and aunt. Once I'm better from my cold, we'll go back and have dinner with them."
The day I've been waiting for has finally arrived—to return to the neighboring city.
Gu Ai knew they were coming back, so she invited An Hui and the others to her house for a meal, hoping to have a lively time together.
"Mom and Dad." Ning Yi went up to Gu Ai and hugged her after entering the room.
Gu Ai patted her head: "Good girl, you're back."
Ning Jian also came over and patted Ji Yan, who had just come in, saying, "You're back."
Ji Yan smiled and said, "Hello, Uncle and Aunt."
Gu Ai pulled Ning Yi's hand and walked to the sofa: "Sit down, sit down. Mom made several of your favorite dishes today. Have some fruit and snacks to fill your stomachs first."
A short while later, An Hui and the others arrived.
"Oh my, how have you been taking care of Xiaoyi? Her face has gotten even thinner." An Hui rushed to the two of them as soon as she entered the room, and couldn't help but say when she saw Ning Yi.
