Chapter 110 Venturing into Danger to Uncover the Truth

Dai Yao was like a helpless lamb, being dragged along by the mysterious man, stumbling and falling through the maze-like, winding corridor.

In the dim light, the walls on both sides seemed to rush backward like black phantoms, while her fingers were tightly gripped by the mysterious man's iron-like hand, and excruciating pain was like fine needles pricking her.

Finally, they arrived at a desolate courtyard. Dai Yao forcefully shook off his hand, rubbing her wrist, which was red from being pinched so tightly; the warmth of his fingers still seemed to linger there. She scolded him irritably, "Are you a crab? Why are you gripping so tightly!"

The mysterious man's lips curled slightly upward, forming an enigmatic smile, yet he remained silent. Only his deep, night-like eyes were fixed on her, his gaze like a bottomless pool, so deep that one felt as if they would be drawn in, unable to fathom its mysteries.

Dai Yao felt extremely uncomfortable under his gaze, as if all she could hear was her own slightly rapid breathing. She coughed lightly, trying to change the subject: "Tell me, what exactly happened? What do you mean by 'long time no see'? Have we known each other before?"

The mysterious man simply smiled enigmatically and pointed ahead. Dai Yao looked in the direction he pointed, and in an instant, a deep, dark cave entrance appeared out of nowhere in the center of the previously empty courtyard.

A faint black mist swirled around the cave entrance, like a mysterious veil, exuding an eerie and terrifying aura. The mist seemed to have a life of its own, twisting and drifting in wisps, as if each strand concealed countless unknown secrets.

"Where is this place?" Dai Yao took a step back warily, the sand beneath her feet rustling softly. "Want to know? Then follow me." The mysterious man said, stepping into the cave entrance first. Dai Yao hesitated for a moment, then followed.

The cave was pitch black, so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. Dai Yao felt as if she had stepped into the sinister lair of an ancient behemoth, surrounded by a chilling aura of death. The aura felt like countless cold, sticky threads, silently and slowly coiling around her limbs and bones, each thread sending shivers down her spine. "Hiss—the yin energy here is so heavy!" Dai Yao rubbed her arms, instantly breaking out in goosebumps. She could feel every hair on her skin standing on end; the chill seemed to seep into her bones. This was no ordinary yin energy; it carried a strong resentment and malevolent intent, clearly not a benevolent place.

Dai Yao held her breath, able to hear her heart pounding in her chest. She channeled her spiritual energy, carefully sensing the flow of energy around her. Fortunately, although this place was incredibly eerie, the flow of energy was relatively clear, with a fairly safe path. Dai Yao secretly rejoiced, thankful she had this golden finger for sensing energy; otherwise, she might have perished here today.

She cautiously followed the perceived safe passage, each step taken with extreme care, lest she trigger some terrifying restriction. "Crack—" A faint yet sharp sound suddenly rang out in the deathly silent cave, instantly amplified, like a thunderclap exploding in Dai Yao's ears. In an instant, her heart felt as if it had been gripped by an invisible, cold hand, spasming and almost stopping. Oh no! It triggered it after all! But the anticipated danger didn't materialize; only the stone slab beneath her feet sank slightly, and she could feel a slight vibration under her feet. Dai Yao breathed a sigh of relief; thankfully, it was just a false alarm.

After walking for an unknown amount of time, a glimmer of light finally appeared before her, like a lighthouse in the darkness. Dai Yao quickened her pace, stepped out of the cave, and the view opened up before her. However, the sight that met her eyes made her gasp. "This...this is..." Dai Yao pointed ahead, her voice filled with disbelief.

The mysterious figure stood behind her, a meaningful smile playing on his lips. "How about it? Surprised?" "Surprised? This is clearly a shock!" Dai Yao couldn't help but complain. "Don't rush, the show has only just begun..." The mysterious figure said, grabbing Dai Yao's wrist with a dry but strong hand. "Hey! What are you doing—" Before Dai Yao could finish speaking, the mysterious figure pulled her forward.

"Wait! There—" Dai Yao suddenly pointed to a shadowy spot ahead, her expression changing drastically, her voice trembling slightly, "There...it seems like there's something there!" The mysterious man followed her gaze, his brows furrowing slightly. The shadowy spot was shrouded in yin energy, and a blurry figure could be vaguely seen, as if it might pounce at any moment. The figure flickered in and out of existence within the yin energy, like a ghost hidden in the darkness.

"Don't be afraid." The mysterious man shielded Dai Yao behind him, a dagger gleaming coldly in his hand. Dai Yao could see the dagger's blade flashing with an icy light. "I'm here." Dai Yao felt a warmth in her heart. Although this guy was mysterious, he was quite reliable in crucial moments. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. What was there to be afraid of! She, a transmigrator, couldn't possibly be frightened by this little bit of yin energy!

The two cautiously approached the shadow, and as they closed the distance, the figure gradually became clearer. It was a stone statue! Dai Yao breathed a sigh of relief and complained, "What the hell? You scared me to death! I thought it was some kind of demon or monster, but it's just this?" The mysterious man didn't speak, but his eyes were fixed on the stone statue, filled with vigilance.

Dai Yao also sensed something was amiss. Although the stone statue looked ordinary, the surrounding energy was unusually chaotic, like a pot of boiling water bubbling away. "Something's not right," Dai Yao said in a deep voice. "There's something wrong with this stone statue."

Just then, the statue's eyes suddenly lit up, emitting two scarlet beams of light. The light was so blinding that the surrounding air seemed to freeze instantly, and Dai Yao could clearly hear her own heart pounding wildly in her chest. "Holy crap!" Dai Yao exclaimed, instinctively taking a step back, her back hitting something hard. The mysterious man reacted quickly, grabbing Dai Yao's wrist and pulling her behind him.

With a deafening roar, the stone statue suddenly came to life, swinging its enormous stone fist at the two of them, the wind whistling past their ears. "Run!" The mysterious man grabbed Dai Yao and turned to flee. As they ran, the mysterious man used the wall as a springboard to kick the pursuing stone statue. Dai Yao heard a "bang," then saw stone fragments fly everywhere, some of them grazing her cheek and causing a stinging pain. Meanwhile, Dai Yao used her spiritual energy to distract the statue's vision; the two worked in perfect harmony.

The two ran wildly through the narrow passage, with the stone statue in hot pursuit. The huge footsteps shook the entire passage, and the vibrations traveled up from the soles of their feet, making Dai Yao feel her legs go numb.

Finally, at the end of the passage, they found a tightly closed stone door. "Quick! Open the door!" Dai Yao shouted anxiously, her voice echoing through the passage. Without a word, the mysterious man took out a jade pendant from his robes. Dai Yao saw that the jade pendant emitted a warm, lustrous sheen. He placed the pendant against the stone door. The stone door slowly opened, revealing a crack, accompanied by a slight scraping sound.

"Go in!" The mysterious man shoved Dai Yao, then turned to block the statue's attack. "You..." Dai Yao was about to say something when the mysterious man pushed her into the secret chamber. The stone door slammed shut, isolating Dai Yao from the danger outside, the sound of the door closing echoing in the chamber.

Looking at the tightly closed stone door, Dai Yao was filled with worry: "Can you hold out?" The secret chamber was pitch black. Dai Yao groped along the wall; it was rough, and she could feel the graininess under her fingertips. Suddenly, she felt a tiny bump on the wall. She pressed it gently, and a "click" sounded, exceptionally clear in the silent chamber. A hidden compartment appeared in the wall, containing an oil lamp.

Dai Yao lit an oil lamp, its dim light illuminating the entire secret chamber. The light was somewhat dim, but enough for her to see her surroundings. The chamber wasn't large, containing several bookshelves piled high with various books and scrolls. Dai Yao walked to a bookshelf, picked up a scroll at random, opened it, and her expression immediately changed. "This… how is this possible…" she murmured to herself, "Could it be… he is…"

Suddenly, the door to the secret chamber was pushed open, and a familiar figure walked in. "What did you find?" the mysterious man asked. Dai Yao looked up at the person before her, her eyes filled with shock and disbelief. "You..." she pointed at the mysterious man, her voice trembling, "You...you really are..."

The mysterious man smiled and didn't deny it. He walked to Dai Yao's side and gently pulled her into his arms. Dai Yao could feel the warmth of his chest. "Long time no see..." he whispered in her ear, his voice low, like a gentle breeze.

"Why did you do this..." Dai Yao's voice was filled with confusion and bewilderment. "For you..." The mysterious man gently stroked her hair, and Dai Yao could feel his fingers running through her strands. "All of this, is for you..."

“Heh…” Dai Yao sneered and shoved him away abruptly. “Don’t touch me!” Dai Yao flung the mysterious man away and shouted angrily, “For me? You’re kidding me! None of the things you’ve done are for me. You’re clearly doing them for yourself!” The secret room was small, and the light of the oil lamp illuminated the scrolls and books piled up around it. The air was filled with the old scent of ink, but it couldn’t mask the rising smell of gunpowder.

Dai Yao quickly scanned the scroll in her hand, the events recorded on it sending chills down her spine. Within the Demon Palace, a mysterious organization called "Shadow" had existed like a persistent, invasive disease, controlling all affairs, large and small. Even the previous traitor incident was just one part of their plan. Good heavens, this is huge! Dai Yao cursed inwardly; it turned out she'd been used as a pawn all along!

She had to take this evidence out and expose the true face of "Shadow." She carefully put the scroll into her storage bag and was about to leave the secret chamber when she heard a sharp shout behind her: "Dai Yao! What are you doing?!"

Zi Ling appeared at the door of the secret chamber at some point, glaring angrily at Dai Yao, her eyes seemingly spitting fire. "Heh, who do we have here? It's you, you beautiful white lotus," Dai Yao sneered, making no attempt to hide the sarcasm in her tone. "What, you want a piece of the pie too?"

"You...you actually peeked into the Demon Palace's secrets!" Zi Ling pointed at Dai Yao, her finger trembling. "This is a crime of treason!" "Treason? You dare utter those words?" Dai Yao waved the scroll in her hand. "Look at this! This is the real traitor! You've all been kept in the dark!"

Zi Ling's expression changed, and she rushed forward, trying to snatch the scroll from Dai Yao's hand. Dai Yao mobilized her spiritual energy, feeling it surge within her body, instantly increasing her power and easily resisting Zi Ling's attempt to snatch it. At the same time, she could taunt Zi Ling, "You think you can take it from me? You're far from it!" Then, she skillfully used the surrounding environment, such as the bookshelves, to block Zi Ling's advances. Zi Ling missed her target time and time again, while Dai Yao remained unscathed. The two fought back and forth in the cramped room, the scroll being pulled between them, seemingly about to be torn to shreds, making a "crackling" sound.

"Stop!" a voice came from the doorway. The mysterious man had returned to the secret chamber at some point, his face grim as he watched the two wrestling. "Ziling! Calm down!" The mysterious man tried to separate them, but Ziling wouldn't listen. Her eyes were only on the scroll in Dai Yao's hand and her hatred for Dai Yao.

"Dai Yao! You ruined my future! I will never let you get away with this!" Zi Ling screamed, tightening her grip even more, and the scroll was about to be torn in two...

The mysterious man stepped forward, trying to separate the two, but was shoved away by Zi Ling in a fit of rage. "Don't touch me!" Zi Ling was now like a madwoman, her mind filled with thoughts of Dai Yao taking everything from her—her position in the sect, the elders' favor, and even... the person she longed for.

And now, the scroll in Dai Yao's hand may very well be her last chance to turn things around!

Dai Yao was equally resolute. She knew the importance of this scroll; it not only concerned her with clearing her name but also with the fate of the entire Demon Palace. She gritted her teeth, gripping the scroll tightly, refusing to let go even an inch.

"Heh, so you can't keep up the act anymore, can you? You went to all that trouble to climb up the ladder just for this?" Dai Yao mocked, her tone laced with disdain. "Now you want to steal what's mine? Where's your shame?"

The struggle between the two intensified, and the scroll made a "crackling" sound, on the verge of being torn apart.

Upon seeing this, the mysterious man's face darkened, and he shouted, "Enough!" A powerful pressure instantly enveloped the entire secret chamber, and Zi Ling's movements suddenly froze. She looked at the mysterious man in horror.

However, at that moment, the secret chamber suddenly shook violently, and strange runes appeared on the walls, flashing with an ominous light. "What's going on?!" Dai Yao was startled and subconsciously looked at the mysterious person. She saw that the other person's expression was solemn, and a trace of panic flashed in his eyes.

"Not good..." the mysterious man said in a low voice, his tone filled with barely concealed fear, "Quick, run! This place is going to collapse!" He grabbed Dai Yao's wrist and pulled her toward the exit of the secret chamber.

However, before they could take a step, the tremors in the secret chamber became even more violent, the surrounding runes shone brightly, and emitted a piercing buzzing sound, like countless flies buzzing around her ears, making Dai Yao's head buzz.

"It's too late..." The mysterious man muttered to himself, staring at the flickering runes, a resolute glint in his eyes. "It seems the heavens are against me..."
