Chapter 192 Search
Even after the visitor left, Aoki was still in a daze.
"Brother Aoki, you're hurting me!" the lamb cried out, pulling its little hand away.
Aoki quickly let go, "Ah, little one, I'm sorry, I..." He wanted to rub the lamb's skin, but was refused.
"Hey, let's not talk about this anymore, Brother Aoki, you should go ahead!" The little lamb covered its hands and looked up at Aoki.
Aoki paused for a moment, then sighed, "Alright, I'll go now." He turned and left the room, heading towards the sacrificial pillar. His steps were heavy, and his heart was filled with worry.
The lamb looked at Aoki's retreating figure with worry in its eyes and prayed silently: Everyone must be safe!
Aoki walked through the center of the tribe towards the sacrificial pillar, where a large group of tribesmen had already gathered. The atmosphere in the tribe was somewhat tense, with tribesmen huddled together in twos and threes, discussing something in hushed tones.
Aoki's childhood friends, Long Yi and Zhu Shiqi, saw him approaching and quickly came to greet him:
"Aoki, what do you think the chief has to do this time that he has to gather all the tribesmen together?" Long Yi probably sensed the atmosphere in the tribe and was somewhat uneasy.
"It seems they're saying some important figures are coming to our tribe. The chief summoned them this time to carry out their mission," said Pig Seventeen, who was standing nearby. Pig Seventeen was the tribe's know-it-all, always able to find out about major events happening in the tribe as soon as they occurred.
"Little Seventeen, you know all this? What kind of important person could it be?"
"That was me..."
Just as they were talking, a group of orcs came out of the chieftain's house. One of them, who was very respectful to the unfamiliar orcs, was none other than the chieftain, Yang Yu.
The three unfamiliar orcs looked somewhat alike, all with sharp eyes and hooked noses that were the hallmark of their eagle-like race.
Their arrival clearly put immense pressure on the tribe, and the tribespeople made way for them to reach the high platform in front of the sacrificial pillar.
"Everyone, please listen to me first," Yang Yu gestured for everyone to quiet down, "Let me introduce you. These are the Holy Envoys from the Holy Domain. They have some questions for you."
"Are all the orcs here?" one of the older eagle-clan orcs asked. His voice was cold, and his eyes scrutinized the Azure Dragon tribe members below, as if he suspected something.
Yang Yu looked down. Their Azure Dragon tribe only had about twenty households, and now there were densely packed tribesmen below. He nodded slightly and said, "Except for the old beastmen who cannot move, the sick and weak beastmen, and the cubs, most of the tribesmen are here."
The holy envoy's gaze swept over the tribespeople, then he slowly walked to the sacrificial pillar. His sharp, knife-like eyes seemed to see through every single one of them.
The atmosphere was tense for a moment, with the members of the Azure Dragon tribe standing together, whispering anxiously.
"This time, we are looking for a female named Chu Xinyao. She is the new Holy Maiden, but she was kidnapped by unknown people not long ago. Some orcs saw them walking towards your tribe. We hope that everyone can cooperate with our investigation."
“Holy Envoy, I think you’ve misunderstood. Our tribe has lived here for generations and has never seen the Holy Maiden. Let alone the Holy Maiden, we haven’t even seen a strange beastman for years,” Yang Yu explained with a smile, trying to dispel the Holy Envoy’s doubts with a gentle tone.
"Oh, you're so sure? You haven't seen or hidden any strange orcs?" The Holy Envoy's gaze was fixed on Yang Yu, as if trying to find a flaw in his eyes.
“Oh, Your Excellency, what do you mean by hiding? We really haven’t seen any strange orcs. To be honest, I am the leader, but I am also the hunting captain. How could I not know which orcs come and go? If you don’t believe me, you are welcome to search as much as you like. I guarantee you won’t find any of the orcs you are looking for.”
The envoy remained silent for a moment, his gaze sweeping back and forth across Yang Yudi's face, seemingly weighing the credibility of his story. Finally, he turned his head, a smile playing on his lips, but it never reached his eyes. "Since you've said so, I'll search you. If I find anything, don't blame me for being ruthless."
"Ah, this..."
The holy envoy waved his hand, and the orcs behind him immediately sprang into action, beginning a search throughout the tribe.
The atmosphere in the tribe instantly became tense. The Azure Dragon tribesmen looked at these unfamiliar orcs with concern and discussed among themselves.
"Hey, what's going on?" a young orc asked in a low voice.
"I do not know!"
"How come there are strange orcs here?" the elder tribesman asked, frowning.
“That’s right.” The surrounding tribesmen echoed, as they hadn’t seen any other orcs for many years.
Aoki and Yangyu stood still, glancing at each other from afar. Yangyu gave Aoki a confident smile, and Aoki nodded, relieved to know that the leader meant no harm to Chu Xinyao.
The orcs brought by the Holy Envoy searched every wooden house and questioned every member of the Azure Dragon Clan, but they still couldn't find any clues about Chu Xinyao and the others.
"My lord, there are no strange orcs here, and the people of the Azure Dragon tribe all say they have never seen them before," a follower reported to the holy envoy in a low voice.
The Holy Envoy's expression was not good, but he had not held any hope in the first place. After all, he knew that they did not know when the Holy Maiden disappeared from the Holy City, nor were there any clues pointing to this path they had taken.
Finally, he sighed and said, "Alright, let's go!"
They were heading to the merman tribe ahead, but the young merman chieftain was with the Holy Maiden, so they probably wouldn't tell the truth.
"Respectfully seeing off Your Excellency the Holy Envoy!"
The holy envoy left the tribe with his entourage, and the atmosphere in the Azure Dragon tribe gradually eased.
"Chief, what exactly is going on?" a member of the tribe asked as he stepped forward.
"Nothing much, just the Holy Envoy coming to capture the Holy Maiden," Yang Yu replied with a smile.
“But this…” Before he could ask any more questions, another orc couldn’t help but ask, “How come a saintess suddenly appears? Wasn’t it only a hundred years since the last saintess?”
"Yes, yes, and there are even rumors that the previous Holy Son is still alive."
"How could that be? He's over a hundred years old."
"How could it be impossible? That's a dragon!"
Yang Yu ignored their argument and simply said, "Alright, you guys go ahead with your work! Qingmu, come here for a moment." He called Qingmu over and led him to a secluded spot.
Aoki followed behind Yang Yu, asking worriedly, "Chief, has the Holy Envoy really left?"
Yang Yu nodded and replied, "Whether they leave or not, we'll continue living as usual, won't we?" He looked at Qingmu with a meaningful gaze.
"Ok!"
