Chapter 34 Boss
Chapter 34 Boss
Zhong Ming reached in and touched a furry thing.
"What the hell? Moldy... Go to hell!" He opened his hand and saw that it was the very first victim, the mining mole. Its tail had been cut off, and there was a bag full of blood.
Zhong Ming jolted and immediately flung the guy away.
Now he doesn't even have a hoe, and he's bound up like a dumpling. He really doesn't dare to fight it with his bare hands.
At that moment, he secretly made up his mind to learn a close-combat martial art, at least to have some strength to restrain a rat.
A dark, indistinct object streaked through the air, bounced a few times on the ground, and then went silent.
Zhong Ming cautiously approached it, while Yue Kaishan shouted at the top of his lungs, "Brother, hurry, I have an iron knife in my sack."
Upon hearing that there were legitimate weapons, Zhong Ming quickly opened the sack. The sack had a large hole in it, and the inside was a mess. He reached out and touched it...
He pulled out half a dinner knife and a broken fork.
The blade of the knife was stuck in some piece of jerky.
Zhong Ming was speechless. You call this an iron knife?
What, are you worried that this big rat won't eat me elegantly enough, so you're providing it with a knife and fork?
The two seriously wounded men stared tremblingly at the ball of flesh, which remained motionless and made no sound even when it hit the ground.
"Hey, Brother Cuihong, is it dead?"
Zhong Ming crept forward, half a blade poised to plunge into its neck.
In fact, he did just that, but because his whole body was wrapped in bandages, his posture was very awkward, and the iron knife was not a magic weapon. With one slash, he woke up the mining mole.
It woke up groggily, its nose twitched, and it noticed the bell ringing. It became excited immediately; it had made up its mind and would not hesitate any longer.
Without its tail, it looked more like a dark, furry ball. With a powerful leap, its legs kicked out two small craters in the ground.
The mine mole flew towards Zhong Ming like a cannonball. That speed wouldn't have been anything special before, but it was especially deadly given that everyone was seriously injured.
Zhong Ming swung his arms, but it was faster, squeezing through the gap between his arms. Its claws didn't exert much force, but they still tore through the straps.
Zhong Ming frantically waved his arms, and in an instant, the entire room was filled with torn bandages stained with blood, which fluttered and danced as he spun around.
"Get down, get down right here!"
Zhong Ming kept shaking his shoulders, and the mine mole nimbly jumped on him a couple of times. Several times it almost fell off because it lost its tail and could not keep its balance. The landing point after jumping was always very different from what it estimated.
Besides, it's not good at jumping.
The two clumsy guys were like they were putting on a bad duet, each trying their best, while the audience just wanted to gouge their own eyes out.
Finally, it climbed onto his back and lay there motionless, no matter how much he shook it off.
Bright red blood oozed from Zhong Ming's arm again, and he was in even more pain in his back.
After struggling for a while, to be honest, Zhong Ming admitted that he hesitated. The best solution in this situation would be to slam his entire back against the wall, or jump up and land on his back to crush it.
But he hesitated. The little guy was too agile. His back had hit the stone wall. If it ran away and he didn't stop in time, judging from the injury on his back, he would probably be crippled.
Even if it didn't run away, it would still lose half its life from a blow to the back.
After both of them calmed down, an eerie silence fell over the room.
"Brother Yue (very quietly), help me check what's going on behind me." Zhong Ming turned around slowly, like a scarecrow being gently swayed by the wind, afraid of disturbing the "unspeakable existence" behind him.
"It looks to me like it's asleep on you."
"Gulu~Gulu~"
The mine mole made a strange sound; a kind of abdominal breathing caused a humming sound.
At this moment, Yue Kaishan seemed to remember something.
"Hey bro, come here and try to pick my pockets."
Zhong Ming: ? ? ?
"I have a book of monster encounters in my storage bag, and it seems to contain a description of it."
"Ow."
Zhong Ming hurriedly took out the storage bag for him. This was the first time he had ever seen a storage bag. It was a small bag made from storage stones. Compared to dentures, it was larger in size but had added defensive restrictions. Only the owner could open it quickly.
Zhong Ming placed the storage bag in the big man's hand, and soon a book appeared in it.
"I remember it was on the first few pages, take a look."
Zhong Ming silently picked up the book, opened it to the first page, and held it in front of the big man's face.
"What's wrong? Is something the problem?"
"Uh..." Zhong Ming looked slightly embarrassed, coughed, cleared his throat, and said, "I can't read..."
His name is Zhong Ming. His educational background includes: a storyteller's apprentice who broke into a shop and a fortune teller's apprentice who was merely pretending to be a fortune teller.
It can't be said that he was completely illiterate; when he was at the Taoist temple, Xiao Zhao did teach him a little.
Now when he reads "The Record of Monster Encounters", he recognizes one of the monsters every eight or nine words!
Yue Kaishan was both speechless and happy.
To everyone's dismay, the book Zhong Ming shoved in his face... was upside down.
What's gratifying is that my brother is living such a good life, he doesn't even have any academic studies to do, reading is just too tiring.
"Okay, turn the book upside down and turn the page."
Zhong Ming readily complied and did as he was told. After flipping through eight pages, Yue Kaishan found a description of the mining mole.
In short...
Clinging to Zhong Ming's back signifies that one regards Zhong Ming as their leader.
Making a "gurgle~ gurgle~" sound means it's being affectionate, depending on the situation. When it's hungry, it means it wants food, but right now, it's most likely asking for help to treat its tail injury.
As for its initial drowsy and half-dead state...
Yue Kaishan said, "After turning the page again, they found the answer."
Mining moles feed on minerals and their digestive tract can digest various minerals very quickly, but that doesn't mean they can't digest meat.
It's just extremely slow.
Meat is too scarce underground, but going to the surface is too dangerous for them, so they evolved the ability to store it temporarily.
After eating meat, they store it in their stomachs and begin digestion once they reach a safe underground location, at which point they enter a semi-dormant state.
As for now, this mining mole is completely stuffed.
Zhong Ming's anger flared instantly. "While we were fleeing for our lives, it was happily eating our monster jerky?"
"I don't think this jerky is edible. Look, it's covered in blood. And the book doesn't say whether mole rats are poisonous or carry diseases..."
Zhong Ming started shaking his shoulders in a fit of rage again, yelling, "Get down here! You bastard, you've been begging me to come after I beat you up? You might as well go to the army camp and be a punching bag..."
Yue Kaishan read the book carefully. Although the introduction to the mining mole was on pages eight and nine, this was the first time he had read it carefully, word by word.
Don't ask, except for the first page which I know by heart, the other pages are just filler.
“Brother Cuihong, in the minds of the mining moles, the more a guy eats in one meal, the more powerful he is. It’s easy for them to submit to you and make you their boss. Did he peek at us eating meat last time? Strange, why didn’t he bow down to me? I only ate a little less than you.”
