Chapter 108 Chasing Shadows
Chapter 108 Chasing Shadows
The Charms class had just ended and the next Transfiguration class was about to start. The two classrooms were not far from each other. When going downstairs, Draco saw a group of Gryffindor students who had just finished Transfiguration. He deliberately bumped into a student's shoulder and gave them a nasty smile.
Before he reached the classroom door, he heard Harry's voice, "Professor McGonagall, have you checked the broom yet?"
"It's not finished yet. It will take a long time." Professor McGonagall said in a serious voice, "You still have the Nimbus 2000. Use that broom to compete well and don't think about the Firebolt anymore. I will return it to you if there is really no problem, although the possibility is very small."
After that she walked towards the door and saw Gloria and others, "Go in, I'll be back after class."
Professor McGonagall was still worried about the broom. Harry kept asking when he could get it back, and she wanted to take it apart and check it thoroughly.
The professor walked very quickly and disappeared at the stairs in just two or three steps.
Draco crossed his arms and snorted coldly, "It's just a Firebolt, and you're so anxious? You're really ignorant." He shook his head as he spoke.
"It's just a Firebolt?" Ron said in disbelief. "You can't afford it, so you're deliberately belittling the Firebolt. It's an international standard broom!"
"I can't afford it?" Draco looked him up and down. "There's nothing that the Malfoys can't afford. It's your family that has trouble buying food for a week. Besides, I have a broom designed and made by Nathan Davis. It's unique to me."
Nathan Davis is the chief designer of the Nimbus Racing Broom Company. The company's first generation of products was designed by him and the company's founder, Devlin Whitehorn. He is a master in the field of racing brooms. Nowadays, he rarely designs products and mainly provides ideas.
"My broom took Davis nearly a year to make. It's one of a kind in the world, and its performance is more than twice that of the Firebolt." Draco treasured the broom very much, and he didn't plan to show it off so early, mainly because people would definitely come to borrow it after knowing about it. He turned to Crabbe and the others and said, "Tell everyone not to borrow my broom, it only belongs to me!"
Gloria naturally knew that the broom was the Christmas gift she gave. Its performance was better than the Firebolt, mainly because the raw materials were good enough and there was no such material available outside.
"Don't you have classes next?"
She asked the two unlucky guys just in time, and Harry and Ron rolled their eyes at Draco and ran away.
The other students gathered around and asked Draco about his broom.
"Draco, did Davis really make this?"
"Why haven't I ever heard you mention it?"
Draco looked arrogant, "I'll show it to you when I get back today, but you can only look at it, not lend it out!"
After the Transfiguration class was over, the Slytherin students surrounded Draco and returned to the common room, eager to see what the unique broom looked like.
When the Quidditch players of the academy heard the news, they came back to take a look at their brooms even though they were so hungry.
Draco returned to the dormitory and came out, carefully holding the broom. The whole thing was made of silver-white wood, with smooth and beautiful lines, decorated with gold-plated carvings, and Draco's name was written on the broom handle.
"Lori gave me this for Christmas," Draco said with pride.
Everyone looked at Gloria who was sitting on the sofa reading a book. She was not affected by the noise here.
"The wood used to make brooms can only be found in the forest near Slytherin Manor. The Firebolt can accelerate to 150 kilometers per hour in ten seconds, and mine can reach over 350 kilometers per hour. Davis specifically sent a letter asking for the broom to be used in a sufficiently open area."
The boys' fiery eyes fell on the broom. Flint, the Quidditch captain, asked, "Does it have a name?"
"Of course." Draco stroked the smooth handle of the broom. "I created it. Chasing Shadow. Any broom in front of it can only chase the afterimage I left behind."
·
Draco's shadow-chasing broom directly suppressed the heat of the Firebolt.
Gloria paid some of her attention to the Daily Prophet. Since she knew that Sirius was not a traitor, she often paid attention to news reports.
In early February, the Prophet once again published news about Sirius.
[Sirius Black's escape incident had a bad impact. In order to prevent him from escaping again after being captured, the Ministry of Magic decided to punish him with the Dementor's Kiss immediately after he was successfully captured.]
Seeing this, Gloria could only hope that Sirius was cautious enough to remain in his Animagus form and avoid being noticed.
But even if she was caught, she would go to rescue him.
After reading the newspaper, she put it aside, took out a pen and paper and began to write a letter to Lucius, asking him to pay more attention to the news of Sirius's arrest and tell her if there was any progress.
"Still paying attention to Sirius?" Draco saw the report.
"Yes." Gloria nodded. "There are some things we need to ask him in person. If he is really caught, we need to ask him before he is executed."
Draco didn't know what to say, but he supported everything Gloria wanted to do.
"Draco!" Flint called him excitedly, "We got the court to practice today, take out your broom and test fly it for us to see."
Quidditch players have been doing this lately, wanting to see Shadow Chasing's style.
Gloria stood up with the letter in her hand, "I'll deliver the letter first and then go to the library. When you're done, come to the library and do your homework with me."
Draco could only watch her go, as Flint persisted in his efforts to persuade her.
Hermione and her two friends still hadn't reconciled. After Gloria delivered the letter to the Owlery, she saw her almost lying on the table writing furiously in the library.
The workload was so overwhelming that Gloria suspected she had chosen all of the electives.
“Do you need to write so much?”
Hearing the voice, Hermione pulled her eyes away from her homework with difficulty. She looked very weak. "Well, I have a lot of classes and homework."
Gloria didn't have much homework, so she just sat down and said, "Let me help you."
Hermione was surprised to find that Gloria knew how to do the homework even though she had not studied these courses.
"Gloria, you know this!"
"My family has been passed down for many years and has produced talents in various fields." Gloria said: "When I was bored in the manor, I read a lot of books and did many experiments, so I was able to come directly to the second grade."
Hermione felt the heritage of a pure-blood family in her. "I can understand the rest, but you know Muggles very well. Few pure-blood wizards are willing to understand these things."
Apart from Mr. Weasley, who is obsessed with Muggle items, Gloria is the second one, and Slytherin is not a family of pure-blood traitors.
Gloria chuckled, of course the opposing groups need to understand each other well enough.
"In addition to traveling around the wizarding world, my ancestors also visited the Muggle world. Muggle society is developing very rapidly. It's hard to imagine what it will be like in the future, but it will definitely be better than it is now." She spread out Hermione's Muggle research homework. "Their creativity is quite good, just like wizards creating spells. We have different development directions from Muggles, and some of the Muggle things are really good."
Even though the portraits often told her that Muggles were not good, her ancestors in recent generations had clearly felt the rapid changes in the Muggle world.
Hermione was a little surprised. "The daily life of wizards is just not as prosperous as that of Muggles, but the charm of magic cannot be replaced by any Muggle invention."
Gloria didn't want to continue this topic, so she turned around and took out her homework, "You haven't reconciled with Harry and the others yet?"
Hermione's shoulders slumped at that. "Never mind that. I have a lot of schoolwork and a tight schedule. I'm not in the mood to make a fuss."
