Contributors’ Notes

 

Matthew Dexter is a prolific American writer living in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Like the nomadic Pericú natives before him, he survives on a hunter-gatherer subsistence diet of shrimp tacos, smoked marlin quesadillas, cold beer, and warm sunshine. His stories have been published in numerous literary journals and anthologies.

Zdravka Evtimova is an internationally acclaimed author and translator. She lives in Pernik, Bulgaria. Her novels and short stories have won numerous prestigious awards in her native country, and she has published stories in journals in 23 nations. Her short stories have appeared in American journals such as Antioch Review and Massachusetts Review and the anthology New Sudden Fiction. Her short story Vassil was one of the  ten winning stories in the BBC world short story competition in 2005.

Margaret Elysia Garcia’s short story manuscript, 605 Freeway Stories won 2nd
 prize in the 34th Annual Chicano/Latino Literary Award given by University of California. “This Train Bound” is a her first published story.

Miguel Gardel lives in New York City. He has studied at City College of New York. Mr. Gardel has worked at many things from janitorial to journalism and back again. His stories and essays have appeared in Bilingual Review, Brick Rhetoric, Red Fez, Pemmican, and others. 

Michael Goddard lives in Cornwall, England, where he has studied film and cooking. “Cartilage,” is his first published short story.

Elizabeth Eve King  has exhibited nationally. Her paintings have been represented by galleries in San Francisco, Washington D.C., Tiburon and in the Los Angeles Museum of Modern Art Gallery. She has worked as an advisor to the J. Paul Getty Museum. She is the recipient of various international art and environmental fellowships.  She is the recipient of two Earthwatch Fellowships. Elizabeth Eve King is presently planting butterfly gardens with children in South Central Los Angeles, creating monarch migration through South Central.

Robyn Dettling Madson lives in St. Paul, Minnesota.  She studied at the University of Minnesota, and is now teaching. Her mosaics have been displayed at art shows in Minnesota.

Elizabeth Oness is the recipient of an O. Henry Prize and a Nelson Algren Award for her short fiction. Her stories and poetry have appeared in The Hudson Review, Crazyhorse, Glimmer Train, The Georgia Review, The Gettysburg Review, and other magazines. Her story collection Articles of Faith was selected for the 2000 Iowa Short Fiction Prize. Her first novel Departures was published by Penguin in 2004. She directs marketing and development for Sutton Hoo Press.

Evan James Roskos was born and raised in New Jersey. His story “Conspiracy of Males” was chosen by Granta for their New Voices online feature, and he was named one of Narrative Magazine’s Best New Writers. He earned his MFA from Rutgers University – Newark and has been published in Story Quarterly, The Hummingbird Review, and Reed. Evan lives in Collingswood, NJ, with his wife, son, and a well-fed dog. 

Christopher Woods lives in Houston, Texas and Chappell Hill, Texas. His photo essays have appeared in Public Republic, Glasgow Review, and Narrative Magazine. He shares a gallery with his wife, Linda, at Moonbird Hill Arts.

Shan Xiaoming teaches English at China University of Petroleum in Beijing. His stories have won several honorable mentions from Glimmer Train.
